"Could not build Report with that Criteria" Error

What to do when the Reports area returns this error — almost always a system time sync issue, not a Continu bug.

The "Could not build Report with that criteria" error usually appears when your computer's system time drifts out of sync with the server. The report parameters look correct, but the auth or timing check fails behind the scenes.

The fix is to re-sync your system time. If the report still fails after that, the issue may be with the report criteria itself — but try the time sync first.

How to Fix It

For Windows: Open Settings > Time & Language > Date & Time. Toggle Set time automatically off, then back on, or click Sync now. See Microsoft Support documentation for the version-specific instructions.

For Mac: Open System Settings > General > Date & Time. Confirm Set time and date automatically is on. See Apple Support documentation.

After syncing, return to Continu and re-attempt the report.

If Time Sync Doesn't Resolve It

If the error persists, the issue is likely with the report criteria itself:

Date range too wide. Some reports (e.g., Assignment Summary) cap at one year without content filtering. Narrow the date range or add content filters.

Filters that don't match any data. If filters narrow to zero matching records, the report can't build. Loosen filters and re-attempt.

Browser cache or extension interference. Try in an incognito/private window. Browser extensions occasionally interfere with admin operations.

If nothing resolves it, contact Continu Support with: the report type you're attempting, the filters applied, your browser and OS, and a screenshot of the error.

Where This Fits

You're here because a report failed to build. For the standard reports themselves, see Admin Reports in Continu. For the broader strategic frame on reporting, see Reporting: Which Report Should I Use?.

Re-sync system time first. If that doesn't fix it, check date range and filters. If still failing, try incognito; then contact Support with details.
