App Announcements let you post an in-app banner message to learners, navigated to via Admin > Admin Utilities > App Announcements. Write the message, choose which pages it appears on, optionally target it to a specific audience, and toggle it live.

What are App Announcements?

App Announcements is the module admins use to broadcast a banner-style message inside Continu while learners are using the platform. Each announcement is made up of an internal title (used only to identify it in the admin list), the message text learners actually see, the pages it appears on, and an optional audience restriction.

Announcements are separate from email or Slack notifications, as they render as an in-app banner at the top of the screen while a learner is active in Continu.

When to use it

App Announcements works well for anything learners need to see the moment they're in the product: a new feature launch, a scheduled maintenance window, a policy update, or a reminder tied to a compliance deadline. Because Routes to Display and Audience are independent settings, you can scope a message narrowly — for example, a banner that only appears on /explore for users in a single department — or broadly, by leaving both open to cover every learner on every page.

The Announcements overview

Admin > Admin Utilities > App Announcements opens to a list view with two tabs: Published and Draft. Each tab shows a table with the following columns:

  • Announcement Name
  • Created By
  • Created Date
  • Status

Use the search bar in the upper right to find an announcement by name. Click New Announcement from either tab to start a new one.

How to create an Announcement

Click New Announcement in the upper right of the App Announcements page to open the Create Announcement form.

  1. Announcement Title — an internal reference name. This is not shown to learners; it's how you'll identify the announcement in the Published/Draft list.
  2. In-App Message — the text learners see in the banner. Use the Language dropdown to write the message in English, Arabic, Spanish (Latin America), or Vietnamese, and enter the message for each language you want to support.
  3. Routes to Display — the app URL paths where the banner should appear, for example /dashboard or /explore. Type a path and press Enter or comma to add it; add as many paths as you need.
  4. Audience — restrict the announcement to specific locations, departments, teams, grades, or groups using Smart Segmentation. Leave this field empty to show the announcement to all users.
  5. Published toggle - toggle this to make the announcement visible to learners. Leave it off to save the announcement as a draft.
  6. Click Save to commit the announcement. It will land in the Published or Draft tab depending on the Published toggle. Click Cancel to discard your changes and return to the App Announcements list without saving.

Preview before publishing

Click Preview at any point while editing to see the banner rendered the way learners will see it, before you save.
