How to attach a Survey to a piece of content so learners encounter it before or after consuming the content.

A Survey by itself doesn't reach learners — it has to be attached to content. Once attached, the Survey runs either before or after the content, depending on configuration. Attached Surveys are part of the content's experience: learners can't skip past them if you've made the Survey required.

For the wider Survey context, see Surveys In Continu.

How to Attach a Survey

1. Open the content you want to attach the Survey to. Surveys can attach to Articles, Videos, Files, SCORM, Workshops, Assessments, and Learning Tracks.

2. Open the content's Settings panel.

3. Find the Surveys section.

4. Select the Survey to attach. Choose from existing Surveys in your instance.

5. Set the timing. Before or after the content.

6. Save.

The Survey now appears in the learner's flow when they engage with the content.

Before vs After

Before: The Survey runs first, then the content. Use for pre-learning questions ("What's your current familiarity with this topic?"), pre-program input ("Which use case is most important to you?"), or baseline knowledge checks.

After: The Survey runs after the content is completed. Use for reactions, feedback, post-learning self-assessment, or course evaluations.

Some programs use Surveys both before and after the same content. This works but requires two separate Surveys — one set as "before," one set as "after."

Attaching the Same Survey to Multiple Pieces of Content

A Survey can be attached to multiple content pieces. Responses across all attached content roll up into the same Survey response set, so reporting reflects total responses across all attachments. This is useful for organization-wide pulse questions ("How relevant is the content you're seeing in Continu?") that you want to repeat across many touch points.

Common Mistakes

Attaching a Survey that's still in draft. Confirm the Survey is configured and has questions before attaching. An empty Survey produces empty responses.

Required Surveys on optional content. If the content is optional but the Survey is required, learners who didn't want the content suddenly have to answer questions. Match the required status of the Survey to the required status of the content.

Forgetting that timing matters. A "How useful was this?" Survey set to Before instead of After produces meaningless data. Double-check the timing setting.
