Setting Up The Salesforce Integration With Continu

How to install and configure the Continu Salesforce App — installation, permissions, authorization, and sync configuration.

The Continu Salesforce App syncs Continu learning data into Salesforce and provides Continu access from within Salesforce. Setup involves installing the managed package, configuring permission sets, authorizing the connection, and defining sync cadence.

For the integration overview, see The Salesforce Continu Integration. For the in-Salesforce Continu tab, see Setting Up The Continu Tab Within Salesforce.

Pre-Requisites

Salesforce My Domain enabled. The My Domain feature must be enabled in the Salesforce org. See Salesforce's documentation on enabling My Domain.

(Beta only) If using the beta version of the app, enable "Metadata deploy by Apex from non-certified Apex package version" under Setup > Apex Settings. Skip this step for the production app.

Installing the Continu Salesforce App

1. Obtain the install URL. Reach out to your Continu CSM to get the URL.

2. Install the package. Navigate to the install URL. Install for Salesforce administrator only — this lets you manage permission assignment after installation.

3. Accept any required terms or installation prompts.

Permission Sets

The app provides two permission sets:

ContinuAdmin. Grants access to configure the app settings. Assign only to administrators or users with these permissions: API Enabled, Modify Metadata through Metadata API.

ContinuLearn. Allows users to access the Continu Data tabs within Salesforce.

Users without either permission set can't access the app or the reporting features.

Authorization

Welcome Page. When opening the Continu App for the first time, you'll land on the Welcome Page. Click Get Started.

Authorization Page. Authorize Continu for Salesforce. Your Client ID and Client Secret are accessed from Continu under Admin > Settings > API.

Synchronization

Cadence. Define the schedule for syncing data between Salesforce and Continu. Select start date and time.

Data selection. Choose users and data types to sync from the Available boxes and add them to the Chosen boxes.

Schedule options:

Schedule — set up regular automated syncing.

Sync Now — pulls all selected data immediately.

Sync Now and Schedule — combines the two.

Use the trash can icon to delete a schedule.

Salesforce data limits. Salesforce has limits on how much data can be synced. Plan carefully to avoid hitting them. Contact Salesforce if you're unsure of your limit.

Viewing and Reporting

Once installed and synced, the following data is available within Salesforce:

Learners, Assignments, Assessments, Learning Tracks, Workshops.

Standard Salesforce reporting and dashboards can be built on this data alongside your existing Salesforce reports.

Uninstalling the Continu Salesforce App

The app can be uninstalled like any other Salesforce managed package via the Installed Packages screen. Uninstalling removes the app and stops syncs but doesn't delete previously synced data.

Configuration Pitfalls

My Domain Not Enabled. Installation fails or behaves unexpectedly if My Domain isn't enabled in Salesforce. Enable first.

Skipping ContinuAdmin Permission Assignment. Without ContinuAdmin assigned, even Salesforce administrators can't configure the app settings.

Hitting Salesforce Data Limits. Syncing all users and all data types in one go can hit Salesforce's data limits. Start with a focused dataset and expand once syncing is stable.

Client ID/Secret Mistakes. Copy carefully from Continu's API settings — typos or missing characters cause authorization failures with unclear error messages.

Forgetting to Schedule the Sync. "Sync Now" pulls data once. Without a scheduled sync, Salesforce becomes stale. Set up both initial sync and recurring schedule.
