A sequenced path for your first 30 days as a Continu admin — what to read, in what order, and what to set up at each stage. For anyone new to administering Continu, regardless of how Continu is set up at your organization.
Continu is a flexible platform, which means the configuration choices you make in your first month shape the program for years. This guide sequences the foundational reading and setup actions into a 30-day path. Each step links to the canonical article — read the linked article, then come back to this checklist.
For the foundational mental model, start with How Continu Works. Read that first. The path below assumes you have it.
Week 1: Orient and Configure the Foundations
Day 1: Learn the object model.
- Read How Continu Works
- Bookmark the Continu Glossary
Day 2: Confirm user data is flowing.
- Read User Management: Who Has Access to What, and Why
- Read Provisioning and Sync
- Open Admin → Users and confirm users are appearing as expected (correct count, attributes populated)
- If users aren't syncing, work with IT to verify HRIS/PRM/CRM connection
Day 3: Audit user roles.
- Read User Roles
- Confirm Admin-role users are the right people (typically 2-5 per organization)
- Confirm Creator-role users are the people authoring content
- Default everyone else to Learner
Day 4-5: Learn the Smart Segmentation model.
- Read Smart Segmentation
- Identify the 3-5 segments your programs will use most often (e.g., "Sales department", "EMEA region", "All Managers", "External Users")
- Don't build segments yet — just sketch them in a doc
Week 2: Understand Content and Assignment Design
Day 6-7: Content strategy.
- Read Content Strategy: Designing Learning Assets That Scale
- Read Content Authoring: From Blank Page to Published Asset
- Inventory existing content in your instance (Admin → Content)
Day 8-9: Tracks, Journeys, and Workshops.
- Read Tracks and Journeys: Designing Learning Paths
- Read Workshop Strategy: When and How to Use Live Learning
- Identify which programs in your organization are good candidates for each
Day 10: Assignment design.
- Read Designing Assignments: Direct vs. Automated
- Read Automation Design Best Practices
- Decide which existing or planned programs need Automated vs Direct assignment
Week 3: Specialty Programs and Measurement
Day 11-12: Assessments and Surveys.
- Read Assessments: Designing Effective Knowledge Checks
- Read Surveys: When and How to Use Them
- Identify which knowledge needs in your organization warrant graded Assessments vs ungraded Surveys
Day 13: Compliance Programs.
- Read Compliance Programs in Continu
- If your organization has compliance requirements, inventory current compliance programs and map them to Continu objects (Tracks, Assessments, Certificates, E-Signatures)
Day 14: Recognition and Manager Tools.
- Read Badges and Recognition
- Read Manager Enablement
- Decide whether your organization will use Badges and how managers will engage with the platform
Day 15: Reporting.
- Read Reporting: Which Report Should I Use?
- Open Admin → Reports and walk through what's available
- Identify the 3-4 reports you'll run regularly
Week 4: Build Your First Program End-to-End
Day 16-17: Build a Smart Segmentation rule. Pick one of the segments you sketched in Week 1. Build it. Verify the audience count matches your expectation.
Day 18-19: Build or curate Content. Either author a new Article or set up an existing piece of Content for your first program.
Day 20-21: Build the Assignment.
- Read Creating a Direct Assignment or Creating an Automated Assignment
- Build the Assignment. Test against 2-3 users first before activating against the full audience.
Day 22-23: Configure Notifications.
- Read Notifications: Architecture and Strategy
- Configure notifications for the Assignment — initial, reminder, due-soon
Day 24: Activate. Activate the Assignment for the full audience.
Day 25-30: Monitor and adjust.
- Check the Admin Overview Dashboards daily for completion progress
- Run the relevant Report at the end of the week
- If completion is low, check whether the audience is correct and whether notifications are reaching learners

Beyond 30 Days
By the end of Week 4 you'll have one program live end-to-end. From there, the work scales: more programs, more segments, more automations. The strategic anchor articles linked above are the references you'll return to for the rest of your time administering Continu.
For ongoing learning, the Customer Success team runs office hours and admin training cohorts. Ask your Customer Success Manager for the current cadence.
Week 1: foundations. Week 2: content and assignment design. Week 3: specialty programs and measurement. Week 4: build one program end-to-end. Each week's reading sets up the next week's setup.
