Exclusionary logic allows you to intentionally prevent specific users from receiving an assignment, even if they meet the main targeting criteria. This gives you more control over edge cases, exceptions, and overlapping groups, whether you're assigning content manually or through automation.
🔍 What Is Exclusionary Logic?
When setting up any assignment—Automated or Direct—you can apply exclusion filters to make sure certain users are left out.
Examples:
-
“Assign this to all users, except external users.”
-
“Assign this to everyone in Sales, but exclude anyone in APAC.”
🛠️ How to Use It
In both Direct and Automated Assignments:
-
Set your primary targeting rules based on groups, users, or filters.
-
Add one or more exclusion criteria to filter out users by:
-
Group membership
-
Completion of a specific course or path
-
Location, department, or other user attributes
-
-
Preview the user list before assigning to confirm your logic is working as intended.
âś… When to Use It
Exclusionary logic is helpful when you want to:
-
Prevent duplicate or conflicting assignments
-
Exclude users who have already completed similar content
-
Manage exceptions like managers, contractors, or external users
-
Control delivery in dynamic or overlapping group structures
