How to set up the LinkedIn Learning integration for Continu — SAML SSO, API key provisioning for content sync, and reporting via xAPI.
The LinkedIn Learning integration brings LinkedIn's content library into Continu. Learners search and launch LinkedIn courses from inside Continu; their completion data flows back via xAPI. The integration also supports SAML SSO so learners don't need separate LinkedIn credentials.
This is the full configuration guide. For the content-import flow after setup, see Importing LinkedIn Learning Course. For the strategic context on content partners, see Content Strategy: Designing Learning Assets That Scale.
Integration Overview
Single Sign On (SAML). LinkedIn Learning and Continu can be configured for SAML SSO so learners use one set of credentials. SSO removes the manual registration step and prevents the "I forgot my LinkedIn password" tickets.
Reporting. Content viewed on LinkedIn Learning is captured in LinkedIn's own usage reports. When a learner launches LinkedIn content from Continu, xAPI sends completion history back to Continu — so completion shows up in Continu reporting too.
Automated Content Course Sync. Continu syncs LinkedIn Learning's course catalog. Newly released courses become available in Continu automatically. Titles and descriptions are indexed for keyword search.
Admin curation. Administrators choose which LinkedIn Learning courses can be imported into Continu. All-language content is supported.
Configuration
Enabling SAML SSO. SSO is recommended for enterprise integrations. Configure SAML SSO in your LinkedIn Learning Admin settings using your organization's identity management solution (EntraID, Okta, AD FS, etc.). Share LinkedIn's SAML SSO Admin Guide with your IT team for the LinkedIn-side configuration.
Provisioning API Keys for Content Course Import. Continu syncs LinkedIn Learning catalog information through API keys provisioned in your LinkedIn Learning Admin settings:
1. Log in to LinkedIn Learning Admin.
2. Generate the API client ID and client secret.
3. In Continu, navigate to Admin > Integrations and select LinkedIn Learning.
4. Enter the API client credentials.
5. Save the integration. Continu pulls the course catalog on its sync schedule.
Importing LinkedIn Learning Courses
For the step-by-step on adding LinkedIn Learning content to Continu after setup is complete, see Importing LinkedIn Learning Course.
Configuration Pitfalls
API Keys Without Sufficient Scope. If the API client doesn't have the required permissions, the catalog sync may fail or return partial results. Verify the scope in LinkedIn Learning Admin matches what Continu's documentation requires.
SSO Configuration Without Coordinating With IT. SAML SSO requires changes on the LinkedIn Learning side, the Continu side, and the identity provider side. All three need to align. Coordinate the configuration with your IT team rather than doing it piecemeal.
xAPI Completion Data Delays. Completion data flows from LinkedIn Learning back to Continu on a delay. Real-time completion reporting isn't guaranteed; expect some lag.
API Key Rotation Breaks Sync. If you rotate the LinkedIn Learning API key (standard security practice), the Continu sync breaks until the new key is updated in Continu. Coordinate rotations.
Admin Curation as a Forgotten Step. Without admin curation, the entire LinkedIn Learning catalog becomes available for import. For most orgs, curating which courses can be imported is a reasonable step at setup time.
